Room Description Tool: Lead/WDO Method

I.  Introduction

The Room Description Tool: Lead/WDO Method (Nº 4) is one of the four room description methods included in the Room Description Tool, a very useful tool created by LICIEL Diagnostics to help you describe the property to be inspected. The other methods are:

  • Simple Method (Nº 1)
  • Grid Method (Nº 2)
  • Assisted Entry Method (Nº 3)

Note: These room description methods are explained in detail in independent WikiLICIEL articles. The Room Description Tool: Introduction, which help you describe the general structure and room components of the property subject to inspection, is also documented in a separated WikiLICIEL article. Kindly refer to those articles for more info.

This article is intended to show you how to use the Room Description Tool: Lead/WDO Method. You can use it together with the other room description methods. You can also easily export lead and termite data from this tab to the Lead Exposure Risk Assessment and Termites/WDO modules.

The Visited Rooms list, on the left, is determined by the List of Rooms you defined in the Field Section: Basics Tool: List of Rooms tab. You can also add a room using Assisted Entry (see section "II.A  Adding a Room Using Assisted Entry", below). Rooms having elements that have already been described display in red.

The Components Description section allows you to select and describe the room's components.

I.A  Entering Lead and Termite Information

To start the process of entering the Lead and Termite data, click in the Visited Rooms list on the left to select the room that you want to describe; then, take the following steps:

1. In Section 1, select a Component using the picture buttons, or the drop-down menu.  If the Component isn't on any of the picture buttons, you can enter it in the text field.  The software prefills the required Measurement Points in Section 3.

2. In Section 2, describe the Component using the drop-down menus, buttons, or use the drop-down menu as a text field to add and describe each Building Component. You can click on the corresponding (blank button) to clear the corresponding field.  Click on to indicate that the element in question (window, ceiling, etc.) is located more than 3 meters above floor level, meaning it cannot be inspected using equipment regularly carried by a home inspector.

Note: You can customize these drop-down menus and buttons in: Tools > Software Settings > Databases: Drop-down Menus.

3.

Enter lead measurements manually, or select from the drop-down menu.  If you use an XRF device equipped with Bluetooth, you can import values directly into these boxes.  Click on to display the Element's Description Termites Info tab (see below).

The behavior displayed in Section 3 depends on the setting you selected in the Random mode field (Tools > Software Settings: Field Section: Lead Exposure).

Complete the Measurement Points fields. When Random Mode is turned on, LICIEL generates random values in the Measurement Point fields after you have entered at least one genuine measurement.
